Whilst we are all loving Als new board, and yes I do visit every day (is that sad). I do have one minor point to make. I think it would be good to have the
"postcards" sent in by fans to be put on the board in a last in first card to be read. Ortherwise you haver to trawl through the whole list of cards
to get to the last/most recent post. A minor point I am sure, still, get you questions and messages in and lets make the board an active and well used board.

Great suggestion, Dave. You put into words what I have been thinking (as I daily look for my own postcard!). Good job.

At present I am visiting the board each day, there are over 60 cards posted now, and it does take some time to get to the last card posted. Still a great site
though, With the snippets I have of this album, with the quality of the songs and vocals I know what Cd is going to some serious air play in my home and car.
Could even take over the position held by the Friends album (the album I play most). Dave

So, you're a fan of the Friends album. I always enjoyed that record, although Holland has always been my favorite. What's you're favorite song
from Friends?

Dave, where's the message board on Al's site? All I see are the postcards, which are not what I'd consider a forum. TIA!

Hi Emdeeh, On Als new site there is no message board as such, just the postcard section, there is no "chat site" the site we were talking about a
little further down the board was the BBB site I think. Although I may be guilty of calling various sites message boards, no intention to mislead just a
figure of speech (I think). I will try and contact Tom Martin re the possibility of puting a chat site on the board it would be worth a try but as for how
much it would be used if there was one would be a question indeed. It is only very recent that this board has had a small upturn in posts. dave

Hi, Mitty. This is Brian, who you referred to the message board. I didn't know Holland was your favorite album. Any particular favorite cut off that
album?

Favorite Holland Cut(s) | #8 | ||

Hey Brian,
My favorite Holland cuts are the entire California Saga suite, which turned me on to Steinbeck's writings, and Only With You, which I beieve is vastly underrated. I also like Sail On Sailor, but I've never thought it had Beach Boys "feel" to it. What about you...what is your favorite BB album? |

Hi, "Mitty." Thanks for responding to my question. Hmm, I like a lot of the more obscure tracks, which Holland does have. As far as a favorite
album, that would be tough. I like the Today album, Friends, 20/20, along with Sunflower. Pet Sounds and the other obvious ones were too easy to choose so
that's why I didn't say them. Yes, I do like California Saga too. There are some good songs off of Love You and even MIU. There are some hamburger
songs too though.

Hamburger Songs | #10 | ||

Brian, you trivia devil, throwing in the "hamburger" reference. Are you referring to Brian Wilson in his Landy days, when Brian was
"rewarded" with a burger for writing a song? And with regard to your favorites list, like you, I prefer the more obscure stuff. And yes, Today is
an awesome album. It epitomizes the California sound circa mid-sixties. Lyrically more advanced than their previous work, and musically nearly as
sophisticated as Pet Sounds. It still sounds fresh to me.

Mitty, sorry it has taken so long for me to write back. I just got your response today (6/25) and I see you wrote it on 6/2. I haven't been to the board
in a while so there is a couple weeks lag time. Man, you are probably the only one who understands the "hamburger" reference. My brother and I joke
when we hear a 70's Beach Boys song that maybe is not as strong as some of their other 70's material, that it is probably a "hamburger song."
I'm thinking of "I'm bugged at my ol' man," maybe even "Johnny Carson" just to name a few. They have their place, but I have
a feeling that Dennis had the McDonald's or perhaps, in California, Carl's Jr, bag next to him producing burgers as Brian's reward for popping out
each ditty.
Yes, Beach Boy's today was when the symphonic background sound started to emerge. I have heard Carl in prior interview's say he first noticed Brian's musical arrangements change begin with song "Let him run wild." That album was kind of the genesis of the Pet Sounds sound. I bought a couple of the Beach Boys cd's: Sounds of Summer and Warmth of the Sun and my kids are absolutely crazy over them. Every time they get in the car they want me to put one of them in and crank it. Even my 3 year old. They sing along to all the words. Now, I put in one of their box set cds that has songs like "Add some music," "Cool cool water," "Busy doin' nothing," and now they go bat crap over that one too. Maybe they really are my children. It almost get's embarrasing when we come to a stop and their belting out, "well I've been thinking 'bout all the places we surfed and danced and all the faces we've missed..." I love it though. It's great for their musical "foundation" since nowdays you don't hear any music, absolutely nothing, that has any vocal harmony, or complex vocal for that matter. I was explaining to my daughter about "Cool cool water," because she was saying she thought she heard a girl's voice in it. I told her about harmony and how each member is singing a different part: one singing, "have you some cool cool water," another singing, "drip, drip, drip, drip," and Mike singing, "cool, so cool cooling me, cool, so cool, cooling me," and so on. I said put them all together and you have harmony. She loves to sing so I thought it was a good way to expose her to what was possible vocally. We have also looked at old You Tube clips so they know who everyone is, who has died, et el. It's kind of remarkable how they have taken to it. My brother has 2 girls and they are 15 and 17. The younger daughter is kind of an alternative, goth group, lover and she loves the Beach Boys too. She will ask me about certain things or songs. At the last get together she said they listened to the BB Friends album in the morning. She thinks the music is amazing. This is the same gal that gets into Dresden Dolls, Joy Division, Modest Mouse, Morrisey, etc. Kind of cool. Anyway, I will let you go. Keep the posts coming. Best Regards, Brian |
