Friends is my all time favourite album, my all time favourite single also Friends. Strange that my least favourite track of all time is also on the Friends
album too, Transcendental Meditation is too bad to believed. The whole album is a simple but yet complex album with many twists Als writing talents start to
appear on this album, being credited with I think 5 songs as named co writer, maybe this could have something to do with the fact is my favourite, although
I doubt it as it had been a firm favourite long before I was bothered about who wrote a song or even who sang lead on the tracks. If you ever get the chance
to listen to the Unsurpassed masters series "bootleg" on the Friends section there is an instrumental only tack, the way that the instruments
interact with each other is just amazing, three little notes here, a bell there ect. some instruments climbing the scales whilst another instrument descends
the scale, very clever almost classical. I have to admit it will never be a Pet Sounds and to many Friends can be a forgetable and thow away album in some
ways but for me, well it rteally "hits the spot".
I can remember standing outside the record shop before 9am waiting to buy this album, on getting the album home it was played almost before I took off my coat, I knew there and then that this was something special. I can also remember playing it for my own friends who told me it was crap and I was genuinely hurt by this, as I was expecting them to have the same instant love for this album as I did. Memories!
The original album I bought is now in California (framed and mounted) given to a now good Friend of mine for time he took showing me round his own town and the California coast line, he did this mainly due to our love of The Beach Boys music, a frienship that started on a message board very similar to this one, a frienship that is now quite strong.
