What's the general concenus on Al's guitar playing? Seems to me he is a fair rhythm player, but the studio and live work with the BBs didn't allow
him to stretch as an instrumentalist. The same could generally be said about the rest of the band, but Carl did have his leads, Dennis' live playing was
distinctive, and Brian was (is) a genius on any instrument. I'm just not aware of anything Al has played that can be said to be uniquely his. Any
thoughts from the board on this?

Same here, Dave. I saw the BBs about 20 times live, and cannot remember anything memorable about his playing. His singing, on the other hand, was always impeccable. I remember their 1977 show in St. Louis...Brian was with them on stage that year, and the show was a disaster! Brian was just screwing around, Carl and Dennis were actually arguing with each other on stage, Mike was just ok. Al, on the other hand, brought his A game. He held that show together with just the strength of his voice...what a pro. |

Re Als Guitar work, There is a post on the Yellow board re Als shows in Vegas saying how good Als Guitar work is, taking many of Carls lead guitar work. So
there we have it Mitty I am assuming his Guitar leads are Pretty good. dave

The Yellow board is the message board of Beach Boys Britain, just type in beach boys britain and you will get a whole load of info for the "club"
itself. Message board, history, news, recordingsd etc. Give it a try. Yopu have to register to post but it is a good board and there are messages eavery day
unlike hear unfortunately. dave
